The Diversity Festival began with a simple but powerful idea: bring people together and celebrate what makes each of us unique.
That idea took shape through four individuals, Christian, Michael, Brad, and Bret, each bringing different cultural experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds, yet sharing a common vision for unity. As part of the Leadership Lexington Class of 2019, they came together, blended their ideas, and created something that would grow far beyond its original scope.
What started as a class project quickly became a movement.
Over the past eight years, the Diversity Festival has evolved into one of Lexington’s most vibrant and anticipated community celebrations. It is a place where culture comes alive through music, dance, food, art, and shared experiences that bring people closer together. With more than 100 live performances, hundreds of vendors, and thousands of attendees each year, the festival has become a true reflection of the people and stories that shape our city.
Today, the festival is proudly led and managed by the Historic Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center under the leadership of Christian. Located in the heart of Lexington’s East End, the Lyric stands as a historic and cultural cornerstone rooted in resilience, creativity, and a deep commitment to community. That legacy now fuels the continued growth of the Diversity Festival.
Under the Lyric’s leadership, the mission remains the same: to create a space where everyone feels welcomed, seen, and valued. The festival continues to expand its reach, providing opportunities for artists, entrepreneurs, performers, and families to connect in meaningful ways.
This is more than a one day event. It is a living, growing reflection of Lexington, diverse, vibrant, and connected.
